Anjali [Apr. 1st, 2008|12:09 am]
I spent two afternoons with anjeune in London when I lived there. She was visiting and wanted to meet some locals - I was the best thing London could offer on such a short notice. We walked all the way from Waterloo to Baker Street and had a lovely time togheter. She asked to see Snape's Pub and we drank coctails there with [info]rosie_red73. We didn't know each other very well before then, even though we'd been on each other's flists for ages, but she turned out to be the sweetest, loveliest fandomer you might wish to meet. I was referring to her to my husband only yesterday.

I always meant to comment more on her journal, always meant to email her some pictures from those two afternoons, always meant to stay more in touch. Her passing is such a loss. My deepest condolences to those who will miss her.

Download links? [Jul. 17th, 2007|09:15 pm]
So. Like everyone, I've heard tales about the book being available for download. So far I've resisted, but I just remembered (probably only because I'm at work right now...) that I'm a journalist and this is the sort of stuff news are made of ;) (Yup, this would be the job I mentioned. [info]pitchblackrose  , foreign news, pleased to meet you.)

So I decided I needed to tell someone about this, but the problem is that I don't dare enter comms like because [info]spoil_me_dh</lj>, well, there are spoilers all over the place ;)

So if you do happen to have a download link for DH, could you please comment with it (without spoilers, please!) so that I can forward it to the cultural department at my newspaper? :)

Thank you so much.

ETA: All sorted! Thank you :)

OMG! THE DAY AFTER TOMORROW!!!! And I live in the GMT time zone, so we'll get it at 23:00, because that's when they'll start selling it in the UK. And I know this doesn't make any sense, because they have never done it like that before, but I'm still incredibly squeeful about it all!

Beware the spoilers! [Jul. 15th, 2007|12:08 pm]
This seems to be an excellent time to remind people of the nifty trick LJ has provided us with to filter all communities out of our flists, during these perilous times before the publication.

To shield yourself from the influence of stupid trolls roaming the comms with their spoilers, without having to build specific filters, just use this url to read your flist.

Er.... Hello? [Jul. 15th, 2007|12:39 am]
*dusts off journal*

*gets swallowed up in a giant dust-cloud*

Uhm... Hi? :)

Dreadfully sorry about disappearing for these past six months or so but RL was rather being a bitch and I sort of drifted away from almost all online activities. Things are looking much better now (i.e. I finally got a job back in May!) so I think I'll give into the temptation of stepping back into fandom, now that the end looms near. Eee!

It might take me a while to get back into gear, so bear with me.

It does feel good to be back, though :)

Saw OotP tonight - Not really spoilers ) is all I have to say, for now :p

Am I the only one getting tired of people explaining in great detail (and with no little amount of superiority) how they are ever so interested in the artistic side of Equus and would totally be going to see the play gazillion times no matter who was acting in it and no one else even knew that it was being put on?

O. M. G.

OK, I just might have to go to Sectus after all. Who can resist going to an HP conference that will take place on the day of the publication of the last book?!

I... I don't know what to feel! :D D:

Bottom!Snape [Dec. 29th, 2006|03:36 am]
Is it just me, or is there more bottom!Snape Snarry fic around than there was prior to HBP?

Snape's status changed an awful lot with HBP. He is now officially The Bad Guy, and most writers assume that even if he will be able to prove that he really was a Good Guy All Along, the process will be long, difficult and humiliating. And he'll emerge a damaged man from the war. Ergo, many assumethat he is bound to be all humble and thigh-spreading, once everything is over and Sex With Harry can begin.

Or am I just imagining things? Not that bottom!Snape isn't a good thing ;)

Merry Christmas :) [Dec. 25th, 2006|01:47 pm]
Oh, Christmas! I am so full and happy - and bloody sore from wearing my corset throughout Christmas Eve :)

We managed to put our new home together in time for the holidays and it looks ever so pretty. We had a fabulous Christmas Party on the 22nd and there are Christmas lights on our balcony. Our tree might not be completely straight - but then again, neither are we ;) (Those who want to cause bodily harm because of bad pun-usage, get in line!). Life is good :)

The presents this year were great - I gave the husband World of Warcraft to use on our brand new desktop computer. He was thrilled... We'll see how that goes. Maybe I'll never see him again...

In any case - I just wanted to say that I hope that everyone on my flist is happy today :)

Squee [Dec. 16th, 2006|08:58 pm]
Oh, man! Christmas came early this year :)

I do no longer live in London, but before I left I signed up for the London T00bs Secret Santa Exchange, which took place at a party last night. And OMG, my present is the BEST evarz! :D

I actually got two presents - a heart shaped padlock - and THIS:

Large image behind the cut )

Obviously I have no idea who my secret santa is, but I would randomly like to mention tonight, just in passing, what a brilliant artist and wonderful person [info]joosetta is ;) Anyone who doesn't have her art journal, [info]antiship, friended , is missing out!

*fangirls [info]joosetta*

How are you all doing? :)

I seriously can't wait for [info]merry_smutmas to start :) November is always kind of dull, fic-wise, but then this delightful wave of good fic washes over you when December arrives, and I love it. Only five more days of November...

Late in November [Nov. 18th, 2006|05:16 pm]
OK, I know that Snape is deathly pale and all, but is it really necessary for him to look like a corpse? I know that Alan Rickman doesn't have to be that colour. Which reminds me, I need to watch Love Actually soon, to get into the Christmas Spirit! But that teaser trailer was fairly yummy :D Dan does angst so much better now than he did when he was 11! *lovingly pets Equus tickets*

Also, this ZOMG WHY DOES EVERYONE NOW HATE HP?! thing that's happening on my flist, is sort of reminding me of the ZOMG EVERYONE IS LEAVING HP AND JOINING POT FANDOM! outrage. That is, I only see the outrage, I don't see any actual evidence of the crisis...

Equus [Oct. 30th, 2006|04:25 pm]
I just bought tickets for the first preview of Equus today. And I'm suddenly filled with... dread, for the lack of a better word, in spite of all my excitement. I hope that the fangirls will behave themselves - the role of Alan is one that I should think impossible to do in front of a restless, squeeing, giggling audience. Especially if you have limited stage experience. Eek, poor Dan! And if he gets distracted by squeeful audience members, the same audience members will go home and post about how pooh he was.

...

But I'm SO excited :D

Of House Elf and Horcrux [Aug. 9th, 2006|07:57 pm]
Yesterday I was idly allowing Stephen Fry to read me to sleep, like so often he does on quiet afternoons. (Yes, I'm in my mid-twenties and I nap in the afternoons. STFU.) Anyway, rather unusually I was listening to the Chamber of Secrets, and I stumbled across Dobby's speech when he comes to visit Harry at Privet Drive.

I nicked the text of a fan site online, since I don't have the book with me, and I apologise for any inaccuracies:

"Well then, I can't think who else would have a chance of making horrible things happen at Hogwarts," said Harry. "I mean, there's Dumbledore, for one thing - you know who Dumbledore is, don't you?"

Dobby bowed his head

"Albus Dumbledore is the greatest headmaster Hogwarts has ever had. Dobby knows it, sir. Dobby has heard Dumbledore's powers rival those of He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named at the height of his strength. But, sir" - Dobby's voice dropped to an urgent whisper - "there are powers Dumbledore doesn't ... powers no decent wizard. . ."

And before Harry could stop him, Dobby bounded off the bed, seized Harry's desk lamp, and started beating himself around the head with earsplitting yelps.

I find two things curious about this extract. Firstly - where on Earth has Dobby heard that Albus Dumbledore is so fabulous? Certainly not at home. Perhaps Dobby's innate super!moral sense has told him that whoever his Master hates must be a good guy? Or has Dobby been gallivanting about the Wizarding world, eavesdropping? Doesn't sound too unlikely, actually, considering how much time he seems to have spent at Privet Drive, battling various owls in secret so that he could steal Harry's mail.

But this is old news, what interests me is the last bit: "powers that Dumbledore doesn't... Powers no decent Wizard..."

Is it just me or does this remind anyone else of the way Horcruxes have been talked about in HBP? "Of the Horcrux, wickedest of magical inventions, we shall not speak nor give direction." And considering that Dobby is actually talking about an item that later turns out to be a horcrux - could it be that Lucius knew exactly what he had in his hands, even though Dumbledore assumed that he didn't?

I don't really think that is the case - I have a feeling that all of Dumbledore's assumptions will eventually prove to be correct, because JKR seems to think of him as infallible. But it's an interesting thought.

Big hugs go to various people on my flist today. Some people just need a cuddle, because life's a bitch, but some have reached milestones lately and congratulations are in order. So: *hugs*

[Aug. 5th, 2006|06:03 pm]
I was rather interested in the answers to my latest post about conventions. Somehow, I had always thought that one of the reasons we were in fandom was exactly the fact that it is a slightly "underground" hobby, pursued mostly in solitude, rarely spoken of in the "real world". An escape. But turns out, that many of you are in fandom in spite of those things. I love little epiphanies like this - I had no idea :)

Speaking of cons, my husband is now listening to an online broadcast of a Wikipedia convention that is currently taking place in the states. Kind of neat - maybe something for Sectus organizers to think about? I bet many people that are unable to attend would love to listen to the lectures live.

Draco Veritas was finished yesterday. To use an overused phrase: It's the end of an era. Draco Dormiens, the first book in [info]thegraybook's Draco Trilogy was the first fanfic I ever read, many moons ago. Then, as I was waiting for updates, Cassie mentioned switchknife, and I clicked. And suddenly, I realised that there wasn't just one, single woman on the internet that wrote about the HP characters, but there was a whole wealth of stories out there.

Funny how life is shaped by coincidences like that, considering how much of the last year has been shaped by my involvement in fandom. I've gone through so many changes in my life while waitingk for Cassie to update, squeeing over new chapters - and now there won't be any more. But I did pre-order her book on Amazon last night :p

Went to Snape's pub and tried to squee about the above mentioned update, but they just laughed at me. But [info]joosetta was unexpectedly in town, with her sister in tow, and it was lovely to see them. In spite of our valiant efforts, Snape's pub isn't quite the same with so many London t00bs out of town. The sad news of the evening was that [info]theladymarauder won't be here next winter, but she's moving on to grown-up hood and will therefore leave the carefree t00bing of London. It's bound to happen to all of us at some point, I guess, but sad nevertheless. She shall forever be remembered as the t00b with the best boobs *nods sagely*

Also? I want my [info]fidgetknickers back :(
